The woman should be subjected to psychological tests. If found normal, she must be put behind bars for a long period of time. This is appalling to see how a woman can be so cunning to risk her health and that of her several kids in order to abuse a system for her own selfish interests that doesn't include her own kids or pets. It is no surprise that her dogs were taken away from her before her kids for obvious reasons.

As a Social Worker, I am aware the reports of child abuse and neglect would have simply slipped through the loops. This is common within the field as there are simply not enough resources and Workers available to investigate every notification/report that comes through the system. Any reports made would have not have been properly justified for intervention and may have been given a lower ’tier’ rating. It’s unfortunate but is just the way it is. Child protection is a community responsibility and the Department requires a stronger community response to assist in protecting the children out there. You can’t just raise a few notifications and assume the Department has the capacity to immediately investigate the reports when there are so many other similar situations and children close to death out there. There is only so much we can do. The more the community assists us in child protection by notifying the authorities, the more cases we can prioritize at a higher level and therefore prevent situations like this.

The Department will work very intensively with this woman as child removal into alternative care is the very VERY last option, if all other options fail. Let’s hope these children have a promising and secure future.
